"There are people to whom you've simply got to say 'No' in this business if you want to survive and prosper."
- Robert Butwin -
Network marketing is a people business, and anyone who's worked with people knows: there are all types. You will (you must) learn which people will be good for you to deal with, and which to stay away from. One way to learn is to be forewarned, so today's lesson offers a few guidelines.
1. If it looks too good to be trueit probably IS! True, a few people do get rich very quickly, but they are rare. So, if you're offered an opportunity that sounds like a get-rich-scheme, it probably is.
2. To get lucky in networking, you must do what you do in any endeavor: work HARD! It's also true that, as any conventional business, it takes some
3. The quick education will come to you when you ASK THE TOUGH QUESTIONS! Be direct and get the important answers in writing. If a person wants to PROMISE you an important result, ask for it in writing. This may seem difficult for you, but remember, the point isn't to create a legal document, it's to determine whether the person will walk their talk. If they say 'no,' you can stop wasting your time! You can also ask for references.
"Probably the best way to find out if someone is a person to whom you should say 'No,' is to ask those tough questions that reveal the person's true colors."
- Robert Butwin -
4. Here are several behaviors that are easy to recognize and are typical of people who you don't want to work with:
People who do not keep their agreements.
People who lie about their past.
People who are overly critical of others - other people, other companies, and even their own companies.
People who promise the moon in terms of how much or how quickly you can be successful.
People who make medical claims for their product.
People who are in someone else's organization - or even deep down on your own fifth or sixth level - who want to signup with you under a different name.
People who want you to "front" them products. Don't let your generosity motivate you to give away money or products to new people. Work with them if you believe in them, but don't make underwrite their lack of effort.
"Trust your intuition. Say 'No' to anything or anyone for whom you sense a 'No' is appropriate."
- Robert Butwin -
Think of the times that you have been approached by people in network marketing who wanted to show you their opportunity. In your Lesson Notes, list the positive and negatives impressions that you can think of about those conversations. Then, list the personal traits and style that you will personally maintain interacting with other high-caliber people.
"More often than not, luck is simply the loser's excuse for the winner's success."
